A shawarma counter in a grocery store, on purpose.
Habibi Shawarma opened in January 2018 inside Naperville Fresh Market — a market with its own halal butcher, a deli, and a produce aisle. That is exactly why the counter is here.
Shawarma is street food. It belongs where people already are — on the way home, between errands, next to the bread aisle. So instead of a storefront on a strip, we set up a counter inside the market where Naperville already buys its halal meat, and we cook the way our families cook: chicken and beef marinated overnight, stacked on the spit each morning, and carved to order. Nothing sits in a tray waiting.
The rest is made by hand in small batches. Falafel is rolled and fried when you order it, so it is crisp outside and green inside. Hummus is puréed here from chickpeas, tahini and lemon. Tabuli is chopped parsley, tomato and onion with lemon juice and salt — the way it is served at home.
Every meat we serve is 100% halal, and we do not run delivery or online ordering. Both are deliberate: a sandwich that spends forty minutes in a car is not the sandwich we made. Come in, order at the counter, and eat it while the pita is still warm — or take it home with the groceries.

One standard for everything on the spit.
Halal at Habibi Shawarma is not a label on a few items. Every meat we serve is halal certified, and the market's halal meat counter is a few steps from ours. If you are careful about where your food comes from, ask us — we are happy to tell you.
